Jonny Cakes

During the Revolutionary War, soldiers carried Jonny Cakes in their pocket for later snacks or meals.

Ingredients

  • 1 C. white corn meal
  • ½ t. salt
  • 1 T. sugar
  • 1 ½ C. boiling water

Method

Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl.
Add the boiling water and mix thoroughly.
Batter should be the consistency of thin mashed potatoes.
If too thick, add a little milk until desired consistency is reached.

Drop small spoonfuls onto a lightly greased medium hot griddle.
Cook slowly until brown on both sides.

Serve with butter & syrup.

Notes

The Jonny Cakes should be small.
