Cincinnati Chili

A wonderful Superbowl Sunday recipe or just for a chili winter day.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 pounds ground beef chuck
  • 6 bay leaves
  • 1 large onion
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 4 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 ½ tsp. salt, to taste
  • 1 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • ½ tsp. oregano
  • 6 oz. tomato paste
  • 6 cups water
  • 16 oz. kidney beans, (1 can)
  • 8 oz. vermicelli, cooked

Method

In a dutch oven over high heat, melt butter and brown hamburger. Add all other ingredients through oregano. Cook until onions are translucent.

Add tomato paste, water and beans.

Bring to a boil, then simmer until flavors blend. Server in bowls over vermicelli.

Notes

Serve chili with additional toppings including but not limited to:
green onions
black olives
grated cheddar cheese
sour cream
oyster crackers
